Friday May 6 marked the 10th year of recognizing School Lunch Hero Day, which is celebrated the first Friday of May to pay tribute to the heroes of School Nutrition who keep students supplied with nutritious meals for breakfast and lunch throughout the school year.
CCSD School Nutrition workers wore purple T-shirts emblazoned with the words, “Not All Heroes Wear Capes. Some Wear Hairnets and Aprons,” while many CCSD administrative staff wore brightly colored satin capes and worked alongside their heroes to serve thousands of lunches today. Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian V. Hightower served strawberries on the line at Clark Creek ES STEM Academy, along with School Nutrition Director Tina Farmer and visiting guest server Dr. Linette Dodson, State Director for Georgia DOE School Nutrition. School Board member Mike Chapman stocked salads and pizza kits at Freedom MS, while Board member Kelly Poole assisted Sixes ES students with fruit and vegetable choices. Chief of Staff Mike McGowan worked the line at Dean Rusk MS, while Dr. Ben Lester in School Operations pitched in at Woodstock ES and Chief Communications Officer Barbara Jacoby helped out at RM Moore ES STEM Academy. More than a dozen other staff members from School Police to Finance joined forces for good (nutrition) at school campuses across the District.
