CCSD Offering Annual Parent Academy Program
The Cherokee County School District is accepting applications for its annual parent academy program.
VILLA (Volunteer Instructional Leadership Learning Academy) is a free six-session program that offers CCSD parents the opportunity to learn more about their school district and how to be more engaged in our schools. CCSD earned the Georgia School Boards Association’s 2019 Leading Edge Award for helping to develop and pilot the statewide program.
Participants learn about the role of School Board members and school district operations, visit schools and district offices, participate in question-and-answer sessions with School Board members, the Superintendent and senior staff and attend a School Board meeting.
“I was impressed with the transparency of each division, as well as the current efforts and future plans discussed in each session,” a recent VILLA graduate shared. “I really appreciated the access to CCSD and School Board staff. It really showed you cared enough to take the time to inform parents.”
Sessions are 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Oct. 4, 11, 18 and 25 in Canton (with refreshments); with a field trip to schools from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 1 (with lunch); and a final session and dinner from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, with graduation at the 7 p.m. School Board meeting in Canton. Meals and other program costs are sponsored by Credit Union of Georgia, a CCSD Partner.
Applications are due by 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6. Participation is limited to 24 parents; participants will be notified of their selection for the class by Friday, Sept. 16. The VILLA application is posted online here and online here in Spanish.
