CCSD Reminder: Student Holiday Nov. 2

CCSD Reminder: Student Holiday Nov. 2

CCSD Reminder: Tuesday, Nov. 2, is a student holiday for Election Day as a safety precaution due to the use of many schools as polling sites.  It is not a Digital Learning Day.  It is a Professional Learning Day, with teachers and staff attending training sessions focused on improving instruction and support services in areas including reading, STEM (science, technology, engineering and math), history, Career Pathways, Special Education and Gifted education.

The Education SPLOST renewal is on Tuesday’s ballot to fund projects including: construction of the new/replacement Cherokee High School (near Teasley MS) and Free Home Elementary School (near the current campus); classroom additions at Creekview High School, Creekland Middle School, Woodstock High School and Oak Grove ES STEAM Academy; second gymnasiums and Creekview High School and River Ridge High School; and athletic facility improvements at Etowah High School and River Ridge High School.  The continuation of this existing 1% sales tax also will fund the replacement of 30 aging high mileage school buses every year for five years; improve technology infrastructure; and fund renovations at schools across CCSD ranging from HVAC installations to safety upgrades (see the list at https://bit.ly/CCSDsplostrenov).  The penny sales tax also will fund the purchase of future school sites to stay ahead of residential growth and the continued retirement of bond debt borrowed for past rapid school construction (19 schools in 20 years) without the need for a property tax increase to pay this “mortgage” … without the Ed SPLOST, it would cost taxpayers 5 mills of property tax – a 25 increase – to make these required debt payments.  More information about the Ed SPLOST renewal is at https://bit.ly/CCSDsplostinfo
